29: How to create engaging social media content

What is engagement on social media and does it really matter?

Do you ever post something to social media you thought people would appreciate and only to find that nobody responds?

In this episode I talk about the discomfort we all can feel when we see people in our industry getting a lot more comments and feedback on social media.

And beyond our bruised egos, does it even matter if we don’t get a lot of engagement?

I argue that it is. Engagement is how we get our posts in front of more eyes. It’s not that those who engage with us are necessarily the ones who will hire us. But it does allow more people who will hire us to see our content.

How to get more engagement

  1. Start with your hook–the most important line of your text
  2. Use a interesting photo or video
  3. Use longer text
  4. Give a call to action in a very direct way
  5. Ask you audience questions that will interest them
  6. Use language that your audience uses
  7. Use emojis and chunk content into paragraphs

About Wendy:

I help service providers stand out by telling their story on websites, emails and social media. When it comes to marketing, the greatest waste is an idea that fails to connect to its audience – not because it wasn’t a good idea but because it wasn’t packaged as a great story.

My goal is to help health and wellness experts stand out with content marketing. I’ve worked in marketing communications for nearly 20 years and experienced firsthand the rapid pace of change in this space. I launched Sparkr Marketing to help you stay ahead in this age of information overload.
