53: Writing better social media captions, faster

What’s your first thought when you sit down to write social media captions?

  1. Why do I have so much to say in the office, but writing makes my mind go blank? 🤔
  2. I’ve got loads to say but no time to get it done 😒
  3. I’ve got my system down, and I’m all good 😎

Pat yourself on the back if category C is you. Most clinicians I know, though, struggle with what to write and how to find time to get it done. These days I can completely relate to the challenge of finding time to focus on your own content when you’re busy supporting others.

And I’ll NEVER forget my first task at my job as a journalist when I spent an entire hour writing one mediocre caption for one photo in the paper’s Noted & Quoted section.

Here’s why captions matter

The images you post are meant to grab your audience’s attention 👀

The caption is where you show your ideal audience that you are the right person to solve the problem they have ✅

Categories of captions every clinician needs

I divide all captions into 5 categories. I use the acronym PRICE to remember them:

Promotional: Think new appointment openings, promoting a workshop or sharing testimonials

Relatable: Captions that help people get to know you and what it’s like to work with you

Inspirational: Quotes and motivation

Conversational: Engagement questions to encourage your audience to comment (what’s your favorite XX, tell me XX)

Educational: Sharing facts or stats related to your expertise, Q&A
